The Rede

Current Redesfolk:

Dan, serving as Jarl (term ends at 2009 Þing)
Phil, serving as Wealthwarder (term ends at 2010 Þing)
Jenn, serving as Ristakona (term ends at 2010 Þing)
Jag (term ends at 2009 Þing)
Ana (term ends at 2009 Þing)

Rede Positions, Terms, etc.

The 'Rede' is the Iðavelli Hof's Board of Directors. It consists of five individuals total (see above) plus 4 offices:
  • Jarl (President)
  • Ristakona (Secretary)
  • Wealthwarder (Treasurer)
  • Redespeaker (Communications Officer)

The office of Jarl is an elected office, and the Jarl holds that office for 1 year. The Ristakona, Wealthwarder, and Redespeaker offices are appointed by the Rede at its discretion (with the proviso that the Ristakona must be a Rede member). All Rede members except the Jarl hold their positions for 2 years. However, every year at the annual Þing, two positions are up for election in addition to the Jarl's position. Thus, a new Jarl is elected every year alongside two of the remaining four Rede positions. This pattern provides a balance of continuity and change for the organization, as each year two Rede members will have served 1 year, and the two who have served 2 years will be up for election along with the Jarl. Voting Members in good standing are eligible both: to run for election to the Rede and to vote in elections (Rede, Membership, etc.).

    Bios of Current Redesfolk

Phil is a software engineer by trade and all-around technophile. He was introduced to Ásatrú when a friend converted to Heathenism. While carefully avoiding a detailed bio here, he has managed to serve as Jarl from our founding until the first þing, and Wealthwarder since. He is a North Carolina native, and as a Linux guru, finds it very easy to type characters like Á, ó, ú, and þ.

Dan Campbell is a Heathen with diverse interests including: Scandinavian and Celtic myth, Neolithic prehistory, Saami shamanism, seidhr & spaecraft, poetry, oil painting, runes, tafl, hand-spinning, home-brewing, and run-on sentences. He's worked with the runes for 8 years and led Beginner Runes since its inception in 2004. In 2001 & 2003, he assisted Danny Moses in presenting the 'Yggrunar: Runes of the Ecstatic One' workshop at two Carolina Spirit Quest special events. Dan lives in Hillsborough with his wife, Cynthia, daughters Jess and Bri, and one remaining neurotic cat.

Ana McKee-Schwenke is a college math instructor by day and tries not to think about math by night. Her favourite activities include painting, various fiber crafts, baking, and gardening. She lives in Hillsborough, NC, with her husband Eric, son Alfred, three cats, a dog, and (soon) two goats. She can be found selling her crafts and baked goods on most Saturdays at the Hillsborough Farmers' Market.

Jag pays his bills by doing IT work for a local university. His time away from work is taken up by his beautiful girlfriend, Hof activies and his friends (Heathen and non-Heathen alike).

Jenn came to Heathenry through an interest in medieval history and literature and a desire to further investigate the religious practices and languages of the pre-Christian cultures of Northern Europe. A musician, poet, writer and avid reader, she is attempting to combine her talents as a makeshift scald, or bard. Other interests include organic gardening, culinary experimentation, a myriad of crafts, home improvement, cinema, hockey, nature hiking, herbalism, and the Oxford Comma. She lives in Hillsborough with her husband and two very large feline children.
