Our Ørlög (or a Short History of Iðavelli Hof)

April 7, 2006

The Founding Rede of Iðavelli Hof first met in February of 2006 to discuss how to reach the goal of a Heathen hof on land consecrated to the Aesir & Vanir serving the interests of our local Heathen community. Having been active in Triangle Heathens (TH), we recognized a need for an organization that would foster a more close-knit community and provide a common ground for all (members, guests, and newcomers) to gather for blots, symble, etc. We felt that land, dedicated to Heathen worship and held in common by such an organizations members, would best meet that need.

We decided that the first step in achieving this would be to create a religious organization recognized by state and federal government and to acquire tax-exempt status from same. Thus, we incorporated as a religious organization on March 28, 2006 and are (as of this writing) in the midst of completing the paperwork necessary to acquire tax-exempt status.

We are also in the midst of:
  • Drafting by-laws
  • Establishing an Iðavelli Hof bank account;
  • Creating, amending, and maintaining this website as an information source on our activities;
  • Establishing regular Iðavelli Hof events such as monthly blots, bi-weekly classes on the Runes and the Lore, etc.;
  • Preparing for the first Iðavelli Hof annual Þing as the founding meeting of the organization (open to the public).

    During March 2006, the Founding Rede also invited specific individuals to become Founding Members, who, if they chose, would become Voting Members without having to wait the normal probationary period. We selected these individuals on the basis of what we felt they could contribute as Rede members if they choose to run for Rede positions this year. These Founding Members, in addition to the Rede, will be the Voting Members who, at the first annual Þing, will run for Rede elections and vote on matters submitted to the membership. For more on membership, please see the Membership section of the Bylaws page.
