Thor's Hammer
Iðavelli Hof Rede Meeting Minutes: 18 March 2006

Redesfolk present: Phil, Tammie, Jag, Dan, Danny, Eric, and Ana

I. Minutes from the previous meeting were distributed via email prior to the meeting, corrected by Dan, and all present approved of the corrected version.

II. Founding Membership
Initial fees: $30 for household, $20 for individuals, but likely to rise at the Þing.
Initial members will be the seven of us, and we will invite the following people to be founding members: Matt, Naomi, Kathy & Roger, Rich & Steph, Jodie, Chip, John, Heather, and Lisa.
Joining: Dan will send invite; people can email Ana their snail mail address for a membership form. They can join immediately or at any time until the beginning of the Þing.
Dan will revise the invitation and will also draft an announcement to the world at large.

III. Mission and Purpose
1. To provide a safe place for people to worship the Aesir and Vanir.
2. To provide resources for people to learn more about Heathenry.
3. To form a community of local Heathens, with frequent and regular worship services, classes and other events.
4. To acquire land and build a Hof as a permanent and dedicated holy site for use by members.
5. To provide a positive example of Heathenry

**Bylaws need a very strong non-discrimination statement.

Danny suggests an ur-bylog along the lines of
1. We worship the Aesir and the Vanir
2. Non-discrimination statement
3. Ur-bylog must be changed by 100% vote
4. Hof must be physically located in the area around Orange County.
All other bylaws must be interpreted in a manner consistent with the ur-bylog.

Definition of Heathen: One who worships the Aesir and Vanir.

IV. Þing
Danny is planning it.
Ana and Eric's land should be available.
Clearing work will need to be done on the land.
We will need a port-a-toilet.
We will need water for drinking and for fire safety.
Danny will look into a pig pickin'.
Ana will take care of the rest of the food.
Families will be welcome; however, childcare will not be provided.
The Þing will include:
1. Opening Blot
2. Camping
3. Symbel
4. Dinner
5. Business Meeting
6. Sunday Breakfast
Tentative schedule:
12:00 Site opens
2:00 Opening Blot
3:00 Q&A Session
5:00 Dinner
6:30 Business meeting
Dark Symbel
9:00 Breakfast
12:00 Everyone should be gone
We need to determine the costs of the Þing before we can decide an appropriate charge for it.
Tammie will look into banks and checking accounts, so we have somewhere to put the money.

V. Voting stuff
Up for re-election this Midsummer for the 2006-2009 term - Jag and Eric
Up for re-election next Midsummer for the 2007-2010 term - Danny and Ana
Up for re-election Midsummer 2008 for the 2008-2011 term - Dan and Tammie

VI. Clergy
Phil suggests having a separate document to define clergy, and have the bylaws reference it.
Suggestion of two classes of clergy
1) Service, Weddings, Counseling, etc.
2) Mystics
Perhaps wait for more input from members at Þing.
We may need clergy services sooner than we will have clergy if we are too slow about this.
We will need leaders, because most people want to be followers.
We don't have a shortage of leaders willing to run blots, teach, and plan events.
We need to define expectations for clergy, including what the world at large will assume.
We may want to start with a simple framework, and let it grow as the needs of the community define it.

VII. Next Meeting
Eric & Ana's apartment, 12:30 on Sunday, 2 April
We will talk about:
Clergy
Bylaws Draft
Bank Info
Þing costs
Membership update
